The first half of the semester focused on strengthening our base understanding of packaging and packaging design. This included researching the history and theory of packaging (such as structural and sustainable packaging). I found the workshop setting more helpful than a lecture structure, as it gave me the chance to participate more in class and learn in a practical setting along side the tutorial. Through presenting our projects and taking in feedback, this was a constructive method.
My participation was up and down through the semester, as can be seen in my weekly blog. Some weeks I was very focused, but other weeks my blog entry lacks as I had other commitments.
Packaging design is a new area of graphic design which I was not experienced in, as we’re not just thinking in the 2D design space but a 3D space as well. The knowledge gained through this unit will help influence design choices and processes in the future; if that may be in a academic space or in the workplace.
